Flood Alert Update: Beaulieu Estuary, Hampshire

The Environment Agency has confirmed that the threat of flooding at the Beaulieu Estuary in Hampshire has now passed. Coastal conditions are expected to continue improving, and no further flooding is anticipated at this time.

Current Situation

Although the immediate danger has subsided, standing water and debris may still remain in some areas. Residents and visitors in the vicinity of the Beaulieu Estuary are advised to remain cautious until conditions have fully returned to normal.

Stay Safe Around Floodwater

Even where flooding appears to have receded, the Environment Agency urges everyone to take care. Floodwater carries hidden dangers that are not always visible, including:

• Open manhole covers concealed beneath the water's surface
• Sewage contamination, which poses a serious health risk
• Chemicals and pollutants washed into the water from surrounding land

You should never drive through floodwater. According to the Environment Agency, just 30 centimetres of fast-flowing water is enough to move a car. Many flood-related deaths occur in or near vehicles.

• Avoid driving through any water lying across roads, even if it appears shallow
